The Northern Colorado Writers Summer session of classes starts next Saturday with An Introduction to Narrative Nonfiction, Taught by Greg Campbell, the author of three acclaimed nonfiction books Blood Diamonds, The Road to Kosovo and Flawless. Blood Diamonds was the primary reference for the Oscar-nominated film "Blood Diamonds" starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou.

Introduction to Narrative Nonfiction

 Introduction to Narrative Nonfiction introduces writers to the styles and techniques that can give real-life characters texture and nuance and add page-turning tension to nonfiction writing. The class will cover both writing and research techniques, as well as explore how tricks used by fiction writers are also applicable to nonfiction. Though primarily designed to add depth and context to nonfiction writing, the class is also applicable to fiction writers.
Among the topics to be discussed are storytelling techniques, "character development" when your characters are real people, developing an omniscient voice, and honing your powers of observation to tease out details that can turn dull and lifeless stories into fast-paced, snappy page-turners.
Instructor Greg Campbell is a published author of three nonfiction books including. He is a 20-year journalist who specializes in narrative nonfiction. His writing has been described as being like "PJ O'Rourke's more serious younger brother" and as having "apersona that's half Jimmy Stewart, half Indiana Jones."
