Let’s face it, stress is simply part and parcel of the writer’s life. But sometimes stress can be a serious obstacle to your writing goals, your work-life balance, and your creative process. Fortunately, mindfulness practices—ancient techniques validated and adapted through modern scientific research—are available to help you transform stress from a tourniquet into a valuable writer’s tool.
In this workshop, certified mindfulness trainer Mike Kimball will (1) introduce participants to core principles of mindfulness meditation and mindful awareness and (2) teach them some tried-and-true mindfulness skills for managing stress and inviting creativity.
I. Introductions. What stresses you out? What impedes your creative process?
II. What is Mindfulness? Where does it come from and what’s it all about?
III. What is Mindfulness Meditation? Learn the steps for strengthening your attention muscle (simple but not easy!)
IV. Some Tried-and-True Mindfulness Techniques. How can you use mindfulness practice to manage stress and invite creativity?
V. Resources to nourish your craft and practice.
