First Saturday Poetry Series with Dan Bogen and Vicki Mandell-King

Happy hour time for mingling starts at 4:30, with reading at 5:30.  Book Bar readings are always cozy, fun, and a great place to discover something new.

Dan Bogen is the author of five books of poetry, most recently Immediate Song (Milkweed Editions, 2019). His other two books are a critical study of Theodore Roethke and a translation of selected poems by the contemporary Spanish poet Julio Martinez Mesanza. He has collaborated with composers from the U.S. and abroad. Prizes for  his work include The Writer/Emily Dickinson Award of the Poetry Society of America and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Camargo Foundation. He has held Fulbright positions in Spain and at the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry in Belfast. Nathaniel Ropes Professor Emeritus at the University of Cincinnati, he serves as Editor-at-Large of The Cincinnati Review.

Vicki Mandell-King says, "I write poetry simply because I can't not." Her poems have been individually published in a variety of literary journals. She has three published collections, titled: Tenacity of Lace, Shrinking into Infinite Sky, and Hurry, Open the Gates. She is in the process of putting together a fourth collection. She and her husband have long lived in an old remodeled and repaired Victorian in Old Town Louisville. Their son, whom both say is the greatest gift in their lives, and his family, including three grandies, live nearby.
