Heather Hein | Creative Program Coordinator

Heather Hein is a local writer specializing in all things horror, terror, but in a thrilling way, occasionally dabbling in short stories of the not so terrible. An Iowa transplant from the 90’s, Heather graduated from Colorado State University in 1998 with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies. She has worked in the medical and human services community since 1992 and recently “retired” to pursue a writing career.

She has several publications of short stories and is currently working on revising novel number three and querying for novels number one and two. She enjoys writing customized short stories for her family for special holidays (Birthdays, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, etc). You can read more of her writing on Off The Hook Arts or on her website at

In addition to Northern Colorado Writers, Heather is a member of Pikes Peak Writers, Lighthouse Writers, and leads a Shut Up and Write Group. She is a new member of the NCW Leadership Team and is excited to lend a hand in the creative programs department.

In addition to writing, Heather enjoys hiking, backpacking, trail running, biking, and curling up with a good book when the temperature dips too low for outdoor comfort. She lives with her husband of 27 years, three teen girls, and a menagerie of pets, plants, and all the chaos that goes along with juggling a family. She spends the rest of her free time volunteering, being a birth doula and childbirth educator, teaching CPR and First Aid, and teaching yoga.
