Editing Your Own Work Like a Pro

June 16, 2018 ~ 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Cost: $40/member; $50/nonmember
Location: The Purple Cup Cafe

Whether you're self-publishing or polishing a sample to send to agents, you need to be able to edit your own work. This course will teach you how to approach your writing with an editor's eye, honing your skill set and giving you an in-depth understanding of the editorial process. The course will mainly focus on developmental editing, which looks at the big picture (plot development, pacing, structure, tone, etc.), but will also touch on the basics of copyediting (punctuation, grammar, word choice, fact-checking, etc.). You'll leave this class with hands-on editing experience, useful techniques to gain distance from your writing, and tips for creating a style guide for your work.

1 Molly McCowan 2016 headshotMolly McCowan – Lead Word Nerd, Inkbot Editing
Professional developmental editor, copyeditor, and literary coach Molly McCowan helps writers get from rough draft to published book. She has copyedited for publishers like Oxford University Press, Routledge, and Taylor & Francis, and has served as editor in chief for two Northern Colorado publications (not all at the same time, thankfully). Now she uses her editorial expertise to help new and experienced authors alike realize their dream of seeing their book in print.

PLEASE NOTE: A minimum of 10 class participants is required, otherwise, the class will be canceled and refunds will be issued.
